Work after COVID-19
I was thinking about ideas for my first “organic” blog. I think the best idea is to discuss the new home office business model post covid. There’s no denying that there are a lot more people working from home now. In fact, according to Statistics Canada, more home businesses have been started since covid began than ever before. I am proud to include myself in those statistics!
Work from home VS work from an office
During the last year, I’ve learned a lot about internet, Google, and social media marketing. One of the things I noticed people doing is to set up a fake business address in say, Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto. At first, I thought this was a good idea. I mean it does look impressive if it appears that you have a big office in downtown Vancouver! I looked into it, and it is very easy to do. Just rent a mailbox at a large office building for about $60 per month. It even comes with fancy photos you can use on your business page. There are many companies offering this service. I thought I needed an address for my Google business page, but did you know you can set one up without an address? The more I thought about it the more it just felt wrong. In the end, the decision was a simple one. Not for me. There’s nothing fake about me or my business, so why would I want a fake address? Now I’m not talking about renting office space if you need to meet clients. That is normal business, and I will do that occasionally if I must. No, I mean pretending that this is your main business location.
Staying Authentic and Real
I mean think about it, if someone is trying to deceive you as to what their actual office setup is, how large it is, or where they are located, what else are they deceiving you about? How much they’re charging you? What their actual qualifications are maybe? It’s very easy to have a fancy website that looks impressive. You need to look behind the curtain. You need to make sure that the business you’re dealing with is authentic and can actually do the work that you need.
Stay True to your Values
My entire career has been built around trust and professionalism. I will never deceive anyone about what my business is about. Not about location, not about costs, not about qualifications. For good or bad, what you see is what you get! Maybe I’ll make less money that way. But that’s not what’s important to me. What’s important to me is that people trust me. That if I tell them something, they know it’s the truth.
So that’s my business model. Honesty, authenticity, reliability, and trust. Oh yeah, and we’re good at what we do too! Lol
